As therapists we often keep those all-important health messages behind closed doors, but we’d like to change that. This month we’re launching a women’s health campaign, and we’ll be discussing topics ranging from the menopause, to pre-post-natal recovery, prolapse, bowel and bladder symptoms and smear tests – all out in the open, as a way to encourage you to be the one to talk to your friends and family. Many of these issues are more common than you think, and can nearly always be helped.

It’s quite shocking that so many women go about their daily lives, hiding the fact they’re dealing with a health issue and not seeking treatment; they’re either too scared or embarrassed to seek help, or are not well informed and don’t understand it’s not “normal” to feel this way. We want to tell you these things can be treated and managed and of course, our therapists are experts in helping you to do this.

7 reasons why you should see a women’s health specialist

  1. You’re leaking small amounts of urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, or running
  2. You can’t reach the toilet in time
  3. You don’t have control over when you break wind
  4. You have a bulging or dragging sensation in your vagina
  5. You find tampons dislodge or fall out
  6. You find sex painful
  7. You have pelvic pain

We are here to assure you there is no such thing as a silly or embarrassing question, it’s highly likely we’ve been asked it many times before! Our team will make sure they take time to understand your problem, and how it affects your daily life.

Treatments

During your first session, the clinician you are seeing will run through a thorough medical check with you, assess the areas of concern and then there will also be some hands-on treatment. Follow up sessions tend to be a little shorter in length, and will involve a review of your progress and a continuation of your treatment plan. For further information, visit our Women's Health page; where you'll also find a list of clinicians who are qualified to treat you.

Are we covered by insurance?

All our therapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. The clinic has contracts for physiotherapy treatments with BUPA and AXA PPP and will claim on your behalf once you let us have your membership and authorisation numbers. We are also registered with all other major health insurances.
