Rafeena uses an integrative approach to working with both young people and adults, with flexibility to address individual needs. She offers both short term and long-term counselling to individuals as well as a couples. Her belief is that all people deserve to have the support they need to reach their personal potential.
She has a special interest in working with young people from 11- to 16 years of age.
This includes those who have been adopted, who struggle with their sexuality, who have experienced loss, trauma, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, bereavement, who experience anxiety, and have issues around anger.
The aim of working therapeutically with young people is to provide support around their emotional, educational, and social needs; to help them understand their emotions, their ways of relating to themselves and others, as well as to provide them with the tools to manage when they are feeling overwhelmed. There is no such thing as bad children or bad behaviour, as behaviour is a form of communication! It is about understanding their language and their world.
In addition, Rafeena also specialises in psychosexual and relationship counselling.
Life's challenges can sometimes impact our ability to relate to our partners and can have a negative effect on our closest relationships. Whether you are facing communication hurdles, struggling with issues around desire, would like to work through sexual issues, performance anxiety, pain during sex or dealing with past experiences that hinder intimacy. Psychosexual counselling can help understand the underlying reasons and we can navigate through them together.
Many adults struggle to talk about the sexual side of their relationships, and yet it is often the first thing that suffers when couples experience difficulties – talking through this in therapy can help improve the quality of your communication, and address problems in the most private, intimate part of the couple relationship, promoting a healthy and fulfilling sexual relationship with yourself and a partner.
